Privacy Policy

Overview
Voca Player ("the App") is an audiobook player that connects to your own Plex Media Server or Audiobookshelf server, or plays files stored on your device. It is available for iPhone, iPhone Duo, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Android. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the App accesses, how it is used, and your rights.
Data We Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. Voca Player has no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs that collect user information. The App has no accounts of its own. You sign in to your server, not to us.
Data Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your device to provide core functionality:
- Server connection details: the address, port, and authentication tokens for your Plex or Audiobookshelf servers. Tokens are stored in the operating system's secure storage: the Keychain on iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and tvOS, and encrypted shared preferences on Android.
- Playback progress: your listening position in each audiobook, stored locally so you can resume where you left off. Where your server supports it, progress is also sent to your own server so it follows you between devices.
- Downloaded audiobooks: if you purchase the offline playback feature, audio files and their cover art are downloaded and stored on your device.
- App preferences: settings such as playback speed, repeat mode, sleep timer and display preferences.
- Captions: when you turn captions on, Apple's speech recognition turns the narration into text on your device. The audio and the text stay on the device, are kept only while the player is open, and are never sent to us or to your server. The first time, your device may download the speech model for your language from Apple.
Network Communication
The App communicates with the media servers you configure. This communication is:
- Directly between your device and your server. No library data, credentials or listening activity passes through our infrastructure.
- Used solely for authentication, fetching your library, streaming audio, and syncing playback progress.
- Encrypted via HTTPS when your server is configured to use it.
If you choose to sign in with Plex, the App contacts plex.tv to complete the sign-in and to list the servers on your Plex account. That exchange is between you and Plex, and is governed by Plex's own privacy policy. Signing in to an Audiobookshelf server, or playing local files, involves no third party at all.
In-App Purchases
The App offers a one-time in-app purchase for offline playback. The transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play, depending on where you installed the App. We do not receive or store any payment information.
Third-Party Services
Voca Player does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The only external services the App communicates with are:
- Your own Plex or Audiobookshelf server, configured by you.
- plex.tv, and only if you sign in with Plex.
- Apple's App Store or Google Play, for verifying the in-app purchase.
Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require account creation and does not collect personal information.
Data Deletion
All data stored by the App is on your device. You can delete it at any time by:
- Removing an individual server in Settings, which deletes that server's saved connection and token.
- Using the "Sign Out" option in Settings, which removes every saved server connection and token.
- Deleting the App from your device, which removes all locally stored data including downloads, preferences, and cached content.
Progress the App has synced to your own server is held by that server, not by us, and is removed there.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
