What's New in Voca Player

iPhone, iPhone Duo, iPad and Mac 1.3.7

October 2026

  • Captions: turn them on in the player to see the narration as it's read, scrolling in place of the cover like lyrics, or beside it on an iPad in landscape, a Mac or an open iPhone Duo. They're made on your device as the book plays, so nothing leaves it, though unusual names may be spelled the way they sound. Needs iOS 27 or later on a device that supports on-device transcription.
  • A finished book now plays again from the beginning when you press Play or choose it again.

Apple TV 1.3.7

October 2026

  • Captions: turn them on in the player to see the narration as it's read, scrolling beside the cover like lyrics, with the remote still playing, pausing and skipping. They're made on your Apple TV as the book plays, so nothing leaves your home, though unusual names may be spelled the way they sound. Needs tvOS 27 or later on an Apple TV 4K.
  • Profiles: everyone on the Apple TV gets their own Voca. Each profile keeps its own sign-in, library, progress, settings and Top Shelf, so two people can use the same server with their own accounts.
  • A finished book now plays again from the beginning when you press Play or choose it again.

Android 1.3.5

October 2026

  • A Series tab for Audiobookshelf libraries: the series you're part way through, Continue Series, series with new books, and every series A to Z. Each cover shows the number of books, a progress bar, and a green tick once you've finished them all.
  • Plex audiobooks now play, with their length and chapters on the book page, and download for offline listening.
  • Large libraries show every series.
  • Updated user guide.

Apple TV 1.3.6

October 2026

  • Series covers now show how far through each series you are, with a progress bar, the number of books in the corner, and a green tick once you've finished them all. The author appears under each series name.
  • Large libraries show every series, and the Series tab no longer says a library has none while it's still loading.
  • Continue Series on the Series tab now matches the Library page, and long series names wrap neatly.

iPhone, iPhone Duo, iPad and Mac 1.3.5

October 2026

  • Made for iPhone Duo: Voca fits the front screen, then spreads out when you open it, with the player on one side and chapters or documents on the other. It works half folded too, propped up like a laptop.
  • On Mac and on iPad with a keyboard: new Playback and Go menus with shortcuts. Space plays and pauses, ⌘← and ⌘→ skip back and forward, ⌥⌘← and ⌥⌘→ move between chapters, ⌘[ and ⌘] change speed, ⇧⌘P shows the player, and ⌘1, ⌘2, ⌘3 and ⌘F jump to Library, All Books, Series and Search.
  • Series covers now show how far through each series you are, with a progress bar, the number of books in the corner, and a green tick once you've finished them all; the author appears under each series name. Large libraries show every series.

Apple TV 1.3.5

October 2026

  • A new Series tab for Audiobookshelf libraries shows the series you're listening to, the next book in each, series with new books, and every series A to Z with how many books you've finished. Each opens in reading order.
  • Control Center now shows the book you're listening to, with play, pause and skip, while Voca plays in the background or you're in another app.
  • Book pages show the latest details from your server, so edited descriptions appear straight away, keep the title in view as you scroll the chapters, and Read more opens the full description, however long. A new Refresh Library button in Settings reloads every title, description and cover.
  • Choosing a book from the Top Shelf while the player is open no longer leaves a loading screen behind, and signing out clears your books from the Top Shelf.
  • The sleep timer now stops at the end of a chapter even if you skip across it, and no longer carries over into the next book. Playback speeds of 1.25x and 1.75x display correctly, and the current chapter's icon stays visible when highlighted.

iPhone, iPad and Mac 1.3.4

October 2026

  • Now on Mac: Voca runs on Macs with Apple silicon. Install it free from the Mac App Store, and the player, chapters and documents spread out across the window.
  • A fresh Home screen, laid out like Audiobookshelf: Continue Listening, then Continue Series with the next book in every series you're reading, Downloaded, Reading List, Recently Added, Books with Extras, Discover, and Listen Again for books you've finished.
  • Your Reading List now syncs through iCloud, so a book saved on your iPhone is waiting on your iPad, Mac and Apple TV.
  • Read along: companion PDFs and EPUBs open beside the player on iPad, Mac and in landscape, and full screen with a slim playback bar on iPhone. PDFs reopen on the page you left.
  • Made for bigger screens: on iPad, Mac and folding phones the player puts the cover and controls on one side and chapters or extras on the other, and book pages split the same way.
  • The scrubber now follows the current chapter, so it moves on even a 24-hour book. Tap the times to switch to the whole book.
  • Sleep timer: stop at the end of this chapter, or after two or three, or set your own number of minutes or chapters. Chapter timers now stop exactly at the chapter's end at any playback speed.
  • Tap any chapter to start playing from it, even when the book isn't loaded.
  • Downloaded books show their chapters and extras instantly, and downloads always include the book's extras.
  • A new Series tab for Audiobookshelf libraries shows the series you're listening to, the next book in each, series with new books, and every series A to Z with how many books you've finished. Each opens in reading order.

  • Better layouts for tablets and foldables.
  • Sleep timer by chapters or your own time.
  • Plex sign-in fix.

Apple TV 1.3.4

October 2026

  • Keep listening while you browse: press Back to leave the player with your book still playing, and pick it up again from the Now Playing card on the Library page. Your book keeps playing when you leave Voca for the Home Screen or another app.
  • A new Top Shelf: highlight Voca on the Home Screen to see your Continue Listening and Recently Added books, and pick up where you left off in one click.
  • The progress bar follows the current chapter; press up or down on the remote to switch to the whole book. A chapters button lists every chapter right in the player.
  • Home now shows Continue Listening, Continue Series, your Reading List (synced from your iPhone and iPad), Recently Added, Discover and Listen Again. Books you've finished show a tick, and books in progress show how far along you are.
  • Back from All Books, Search or Settings returns to Library, the sleep timer can stop after two or three chapters, and the book page and player controls have been tidied up.
